Wedding Day Advice from a Videographer: What Couples Often Overlook

1. Hire the Best Wedding Videographer You Can

We might be a little biased but trust us on this. You won’t regret it.
The only people who ever do are the couples who didn’t.

Your wedding day will fly by, and you’ll miss countless little details. A professional video helps you relive the emotions and see moments you didn’t catch in real-time.

Got guests who can’t make it? Send them a link to your highlight film. With streaming and download options, they can watch it again and again — wherever they are in the world.

2. Hire a Professional Photographer (Who Can Also Herd Cats)

A great photographer doesn’t just take beautiful photos — they run the show during group shots.

They need the confidence to organise guests, stick to a photo timeline, and handle tricky family dynamics. That sunset session you’re dreaming of? It won’t happen without someone who can keep things moving.

If you’re still looking for your perfect photographer, let us know and we can make recommendations of the very best we know.

3. Give the Best Man a Proper Pep Talk

Seriously — this role is more than just a funny speech and holding the rings.

The best man should be your groom’s right-hand man, ready to:

  • Handle schedule changes

  • Give guests directions

  • Liaise with vendors

  • Check on timings

  • Keep the groom calm (and sober…)

In many ways, he’s the unofficial wedding day PA — so let him know that.

4. If Your Day Has Multiple Locations, Hire a Master of Ceremonies

Been to a wedding where time ran out and the photos got cut short? So have we.

If your wedding involves multiple segments or venues, a master of ceremonies can keep everything on track. They’re crucial for:

  • Managing timing

  • Making announcements

  • Avoiding delays (especially during the photo session)

Think of them as the timekeeper of the day — and your sunset photo session will thank you.

5. Pace Yourself (And Your Groom)

Yes, you’ll be celebrating — but go easy on the alcohol until after the wedding breakfast.

You’ll want to remember the whole day clearly — and look your best in front of guests and cameras. A tipsy stumble down the aisle or a slurred speech doesn’t make for great footage (or memories).

6. Don’t Forget the Cake Knife

You’ll be cutting your wedding cake — but with what?

A silver engraved cake knife with your names and wedding date makes a lovely keepsake. It’s one of the few practical items from the day that you can use again and again on anniversaries.

7. See Out the Full First Dance

Even if you’re not a dancer, we recommend completing your entire first dance before inviting others to join you.

Why? Because guests aren’t watching your feet — they’re watching how connected you are. Even a simple slow sway, holding each other close, can be a deeply emotional and memorable moment.

Those three and a half minutes will be over before you know it. And then Uncle Bob will be attempting the moonwalk…

8. Feed Your Vendors

Your photographer and videographer have been working non-stop since morning — capturing every moment, sprinting between angles, and staying switched on all day.

A hot vendor meal keeps them energised and focused. It’s not just polite — it helps ensure they don’t miss a thing. If you don’t feed them, they may have to leave the venue to find food, meaning potential missed footage.

9. Build in Buffer Time

Wedding timelines always slip — it’s normal. But if your day is planned back-to-back with no breathing room, you risk running out of time for key events.

Leave space in the schedule with built-in buffers. These short pauses allow the day to catch up naturally, so you don’t lose out on portraits, speeches, or dancing later on.

Your wedding day is full of moving parts — some you can plan for, and others you can’t. But with the right prep, the right team, and a bit of breathing room, it will flow beautifully.
